EuroACE the “Alliance of Companies working for Energy efficiency” and SBi “Danish Building Research Institute” has made a study on the current status on implementation of very low energy building in national Building Regulations. The aim of the survey has been to uncover the current status in the individual member states. The context of this survey, indicate that several national authorizes intend to set significantly high standard on energy efficiency and that some countries has targets to have zero energy, zero carbon and energy producing buildings within the coming 10 years. The report shows the national targets and strengthens the importance to develop better buildings with focus on energy and CO2 savings. The development of Active Houses can be one of the tools to meet the targets. We can already build such houses today, some of the projects on this page are very good examples on the development. But from my point of view, we are not yet ready to build such houses as standard solutions and therefore a stronger knowledge sharing is needed. The activehouse.info site and the activities within the participants on the site are therefore very valuable. The EuroACE/SBi report also indicates that common methodologies or definitions of very low energy buildings are not available. The individual countries have different definitions, which of course is based on the national conditions and traditions. It can be very valuable with national definitions, but a common definition could also be valuable. The EuroACE/SBi report is attached.
