The call for demonstration of very low energy new buildings has opened on 20 July with a final call on 2 December 2010. The project supported under the call shall have high potential for large scale deployment before 2020 and thereby it fit perfectly into the Active House vision.

The objective for the FP7 project is to demonstrate in the building sector, high energy efficient innovative technologies and measures resulting in very low energy new buildings. The performance calculation should take into account all types of energy use: consumption for space heating and cooling, water heating, air conditioning, as well as consumption of electricity, including lighting. In any case the total annual energy consumption of the building(s) should not exceed 60 kWh/m²/year (primary energy). Both residential and nonresidential buildings are addressed.
In addition to the ambitious energy efficiency target mentioned above, a significant share of energy supplied by renewable energies integrated into the buildings would give an added value to the proposal during the evaluation.
The construction should be as cost effective as possible. The return on investment for the energy saving measures should be calculated and presented and should be acceptable under current market standards. The project could contain a single building or a number of buildings, located in one or more countries. Priority will be given to buildings the typology and use of which could be representative for large geographical areas in Europe.
